Security deposit and payment methods for renting a car

The security deposit ranges from US$200 to US$500 depending on the vehicle, and the amount is the same by credit card, debit card or cash. It is released after the vehicle is returned and inspected: cash is returned when we receive the vehicle, a credit card takes 2 to 7 days and a debit card 15 to 30 days, depending on the bank.

When the deposit is released

After receiving and inspecting the vehicle, LAGO releases the deposit, as long as there is no damage, missing fuel, fines, extra days or other charges set out in the contract.

  • Cash: returned when we receive the vehicle.
  • Credit card: 2 to 7 days.
  • Debit card: 15 to 30 days.

The final time also depends on the issuing bank.

What can be deducted from the deposit

  • Damage to the vehicle: with Gold coverage, your share of 20% of the covered damage is deducted, with a minimum of US$300. Without Gold, you are responsible for damage to the rented vehicle.
  • Missing fuel.
  • Fines.
  • Extra days.
  • Other charges set out in the contract.

The US$100 advance payment to confirm your booking

The advance payment is not the deposit: it confirms your booking and is paid by bank transfer or payment link.

  • It is deducted from the rental total.
  • It is not refundable if you cancel.
  • If you cancel, you can reschedule your dates at no cost within 90 days after the cancellation.
